Frequently Asked Questions
When can you start prenatal yoga?
Any time during your gestation and if you want to get a jump on it you can start even before your pregnant as well.
Are pregnancy yoga classes good birth preparation?
Prenatal yoga is a good way to help your body prepare physically and mentally but cannot not replace something like Lamaze class.
At what point will you start assisting us after the birth?
I can be there at the hospital helping my client emotionally, or, I’m there as soon as my client needs me. We set up the dates before baby comes and leave room for adjustments.
Do you offer breastfeeding support?
Yes! I have been trained in breastfeeding as well as have had 7 years experience with my own children.
Will yoga help me maintain fitness during pregnancy?
Yes, but it is a different kind of fitness, a more gentle kind, and it will do so much more than that. yoga is not just for your body but for your mind and emotions as well. Yoga, especially the class I offer, not only maintains your fitness but can restore your happiness.
Can complete beginners do prenatal yoga?
Yes, of course! Most of the super advanced poses are off limits closer to the end of gestation or if you have other complications anyways. Prenatal yoga is a more gentle yoga because a prenatal body has a hormone called relaxin flowing through it that makes the body very flexible. I have to take that into consideration when guiding a person through a yoga session so I do not over extend their body.
What would you do during a typical day with us?
If it’s a normal day, I’ll come in, change into my house shoes, wash my hands and sit with the family members to have a little catch up. First I’ll ask, would you like me to hold (plug in sweet babies name here). Why would I ask this? Because mom and/or dad have not had them to themselves for a while. I know this, and I want to give the parents a chance to not have anyone touching them for a few minutes. I’ll ask how every one is doing, ask how the night went. I’ll ask a few more questions regarding to how is your mind, heart and body feeling. I would have previously left a pad of paper for the family to write a list and highlight their top three things they would like me to help with. Before I get to it I’ll see what mom or dad have planned for the day, see what we can work on together, see what they would like to learn and then get to it. I’ll be around if they need me, I’ll be wearing or holding baby if mama wants to take a nap or shower; things like that.
